Justice for All Resource Guide

Our Justice for All series has been a pivotal time in our church. The roaring lion from Tekoa has completely wrecked this young church in Orlando. Who would have thought a study in one of the books considered as the minor prophets would leave such an impact on the spiritual life of many members. The book of Amos is a minor book with a major message.

For many people, though, this book was merely an introduction to the topic of justice. In a lot of ways, many of us discovered or recovered the biblical theme of justice in our own lives. The question may arise, how do we deepen our understanding of justice and display God’s rightness, mercy, and love for the world.

I hope this resource guide will further the conversation. What you find below are some amazing resources I hope will help you navigate the issue of justice with biblical integrity and theological fidelity.

Books: These books have deeply formed my study on Justice and Racial Reconciliation

Oneness Embraced by Tony Evans

Tony Evans is a sage when it comes to racial reconciliation and justice. He is the first black PhD from Dallas Theological Seminary and has been a trail-blazer ever since. His church Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship is a shining example of what justice fleshed out in the local life of the church can achieve. Oneness Embraced gives rich theological reflection concerning biblical justice and a through history of blacks in the Bible as well as Christianity.

Counter-Culture by David Platt

As we have seen the issue of justice are more pervasive than just racial reconciliation. Here, David Platt gives us a compass to think about some of the more pressing issues challenging Christians in this culture. I first went through this book in its audible version and it was a life transforming experience.

Generous Justice by Tim Keller

Generous Justice is a Christian classic at this point. Tim Keller gives a persuasive and compelling case for biblical justice and its impetrative for the Christian today. This book is a great read for a further look into biblical texts that expound upon biblical justice through redemptive history.

Let Justice Roll Down by John Perkins

There are few people who can speak about justice from a deep experience like John Perkins. I won’t spoil it. Read everything John Perkins writes. He is a gift to the church!

Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson

Many have asked what contemporary examples of injustice exist around us? Bryan Stevenson’s work and especially this book make it abundantly clear injustices are all around us. His story is compelling and will move you to tears.

Sermons & Panels

Last but not least, I highly recommend the resources from the MLK 50 conference. It was an event hosted by the Gospel Coalition and the Ethics, Religious, and Liberty Committee (ERLC) of the Southern Baptist Convention. Key note speakers include some of my favorite speakers such as Charlie Dates, Russell Moore, Matt Chandler, and Eric Mason. There are also panel discussions, articles, and interviews from key Christian leaders with a loving pastoral tone. This is a one-stop-shop for all things concerning justice and racial reconciliation.
